The Huaca—whether an object, animal, person, or place—serves as a sacred entity, a portal that mediates the space between the natural and supernatural worlds. HUACAS explores reconnecting with my Andean identity, drawing on pre-Columbian traditions and mythology, particularly animism.
I went back to traditional painting methods to create shrines and figures inspired by Andean practices. Huacas are present in everyday life—eating, walking, playing music, and even communicating with humans. This connection between the divine and the ordinary is central to many Native Andean myths, where the human traits of Huacas are celebrated.
By reimagining Huacas through a Neo-Andean lens, this series pays tribute to my ancestors while also engaging with the future, envisioning a world where Andean traditions and identity can thrive alongside modernity.
